Build it, boot it, poke around.
TermuOS ships as source — there's no installer. Build termuos.iso yourself in about a
minute, or pull the latest image straight from continuous integration.
What you'll need
Host system
- A Linux machine or VM
- x86_64 recommended
- ~500 MB free disk space
Build tools
- clang
- nasm
- make
- xorriso
To run the ISO
- qemu-system-x86 (easiest)
- Or: real hardware / another hypervisor
- Or: a USB writer, e.g.
dd
Boot targets
make run boots straight into an emulated machine — the fastest way to try TermuOS.
Write termuos.iso to a USB drive and boot it on real x86_64 hardware via BIOS or
UEFI.
Any VM that boots a standard ISO — VirtualBox, VMware, etc. — will work; QEMU is simply what the Makefile targets.
TermuOS is under active, early development — expect rough edges, and treat it as a machine for reading and experimenting with rather than daily use.
